There is no way to justify the manner in which more and more companies package their employees. People who have worked for 10, 15 or even 30 years these days aren’t afforded the courtesy of a retirement ceremony and acknowledgement of their loyal years of service.
Their colleagues are not a part of a celebratory farewell and thank you. They are walked out of the office with a “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out” feeling! So, what’s up with this? My rant today is that it is wrong and ultimately damaging to those left behind. Companies are “eating their young” and undervaluing the mentors who have sacrificed so much. Who cares about the extra, hours, the weekends and late nights, it doesn’t matter a hill of beans!
Turn to a Life-Cycle Celebrant® and let them co-create a “work transition” ceremony for you or anyone who may have left their job. Even if they chose to finally hang up their gloves and not find work elsewhere, there needs to be proper closure to end of a career chapter. The heart might be broken and needs to be healed and uplifted. One door is closed but let a Celebrant open another door for you.
